What is Facebook?
Facebook provides people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Millions of people use Facebook everyday to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.
The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History has adopted Facebook to take advantages of the following:
1. Facebook is a great resource for generating brand awareness for the museum.
2. Facebook is an efficient and timely method for communicating promotions, contest and events.
3. Facebook functions as a portal for driving traffic to LucyCraftLaneyMuseum.com.
4. Facebook is useful tool for seeing what our users think and say about the museum.
5. You never know who is using Facebook...which creates many opportunities for the Museum and potential benefactors and beneficiaries to find each other.
6. The Viral Effect - Facebook elevates word of mouth to a whole new level.
What is RSS?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way for the Museum to easily distribute news and updates to a wide number of people. Websites such as LucyCraftLaneyMuseum.com change content on an unpredictable schedule. RSS is a better way to be notified of new and changed content. Notifications of changes to LucyCraftLaneyMuseum.com is easily managed and the results are presented to you in a well organized fashion.
RSS works by having LucyCraftLaneyMuseum.com maintain a list of notifications on the website in a standard way. This list of notifications is called an "RSS Feed". People who are interested in finding out the latest headlines or changes can check this list. Special computer programs have been developed to automatically access the RSS feeds on your behalf and organize the results for you....Subscribe Now!
What is Twitter?
Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most compelling and follow the conversations.
At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters in length, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot with a little space. Connected to each Tweet is a rich details pane that provides additional information, deeper context and embedded media.
The museum can tell a story within a Tweet, or you can think of a Tweet as the Museum headline with a details pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other media content!

What is YouTube?
YouTube as a concept is brilliantly simple. People post videos on YouTube. Others watch and comment on the posted videos. Vvideos can be anything from sports clips to tours and presentations such the Museum's video produced the the Augusta Convention and Visitor's Bureau for the "Visit Augusta" Channel.
The numbers generated by YouTube are staggering. One hundred million videos are on the YouTube servers, with 65,000 new ones uploaded every day. They're watched by 20 million viewers a month.
